Celebrate Labour Day Weekend with a behind-the-scenes tour of union banners from our permanent collection, followed by a banner-making workshop for youth and adults 12 and up led by special guest artists!

Join WAHC's Program Coordinator, Tara Bursey, as she leads you through a selection of 20th century union banners from the permanent collection of the Workers Arts & Heritage Centre. This informative, up-close collection tour will unpack the materials, symbols, unions and workers represented by these rare and exquisite pieces of workers' heritage. Come learn and see how cloth serves as both a powerful vehicle and metaphor for collectivity.

Following the tour, stick around for a hands-on banner making workshop for youth and adults facilitated by special guest artists. Use inspiration from historic banners towards the creation of your own empowering Labour Day mini-banner using techniques such as screenprinting, embroidery and iron-on transfers. All materials will be provided!

Sign up for the tour and workshop in advance via Eventbrite at this link:

And don’t forget to top your weekend off on Labour Day Monday at the Hamilton & District Labour Council's Annual Labour Day Parade and Picnic, at Bayfront Park. Join WAHC in the park after the parade.

Free tickets must be reserved via Eventbrite in advance of the event. You may also reserve a spot over the phone at (905) 522-3003 ex. 29 or via email. For more information about this program, contact Tara Bursey, Program Coordinator at
