Workshop Description:
ITS – Improvisational Tribal Style is a freestyle dance format inspired by Carolena Nericcio’s American Tribal Style. Moving like a flock of birds or school of fish, we’ll use the body to communicate intent. ITS is like a language, after we learn a shared vocabulary we are able to have spontaneous conversation. With a turn of the head, hand gesture or foot placement the leader will cue a preset combination. This dance is great for being in the moment, creating art right out of thin air while listening to the music, as well as joyous and playful group work. The roots of this dance are Egyptian, featuring both folklore and traditional bellydance. The ITS we explore will also be peppered with bits of Indian and Spanish fusion as well as theatrical & modern dance stylizations.

About Eshe:
Born and raised in Hamilton, Eshe has been bellydancing since 2002. She's trained extensively in Canada, Japan, Egypt, and Turkey. She's performed in Canada, Japan, Turkey, South Korea, Australia, Malaysia and Indonesia. From 2008 to 2010, Eshe was the bellydancer for the Korean folk/world music band Orgeltanz gigging at some of the country's biggest music festivals, including the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival and Grand Mint Festival, was featured in the Korean editions of Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, and appeared on several TV and radio programs.

In 2010, Eshe was cast in the Korean and Indonesian versions of Jillina's Bellydance Evolution – a large-scale, international bellydance stage production where she also won Asia’s “People’s Choice” award. In 2012, her students won the bronze medal for Oriental Ensemble at the Tokyo International Bellydance Competition.

In 2015 she returned to Canada, resumed «Harem» bellydance showcases at The Casbah and appeared at events like Supercrawl. In 2016 she opened Mahasti — The Bellydance Emporium and won 2nd place in the troupe category with Raqs Mahasti at Star Bellydancer Canada.
