This #FREE panel discussion will illuminate the public art process from an artist’s perspective to critically appraise how Hamilton’s process compares with others in Canada. Panelists include Brandon Vickerd, David General and Laura Marotta.
The exhibition OUT THERE: The Process of Hamilton Public Art is currently on view at the AGH Annex.
Any artwork that is commissioned by a city for a public space is bound to face a tremendous amount of scrutiny, not only for the work that gets commissioned, but for the transparency and accountability of the process by which it was selected. OUT THERE surveys a number of recent public art competitions organized by the City of Hamilton in order to reveal the process by which they were juried, offered for public feedback, constructed, and installed; the exhibition will present images of winning competitions, but also designs from shortlisted artists, samples of public commentary, design maquettes and more.
