20 Minutes of Action
Curated by Sally Frater
October 28 – December 2
20 Minutes of Action brings together artists from Canada and the United States who employ print, time-based media, and sculpture to create works that respond to the prevalence of sexual violence in society. The exhibition draws it's title from the infamous Brock Turner rape trial in which the accused's father dismissively referred to his son's sexual assault of Emily Doe as «twenty minutes of action.» Collectively, the participants identify the ways in which “rape culture” permeates myriad facets of society, normalizing attitudes towards sexual violence and thus give rise to it. Through their responses, they seek to both document and disrupt the pervasiveness of sexual abuse.
